Privacy Policy

What We Collect

CurrentCost collects no personal information. The app operates entirely on your device and does not have user accounts, registration, or sign-in.

The only data stored is your app preferences (such as your electricity rate, location state, and EV settings), saved locally on your device using iOS standard local storage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.

Location

CurrentCost requests access to your device's location solely to determine your U.S. state for looking up local electricity rates. Your precise GPS coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim reverse geocoding service (a privacy-respecting, open-source service) to identify your state. Only your state abbreviation (e.g. "ME") is retained by the app. Your precise location is never stored or transmitted to us.

You may deny location access at any time in iOS Settings. Without location access, you can still use the app by manually selecting your ISO/RTO region.

Third-Party Data Sources

CurrentCost retrieves publicly available data from the following external services. These requests are made directly from your device and are subject to each service's own privacy policies:

• U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) — electricity rates and grid data. No personal information is transmitted. eia.gov privacy policy
• OpenStreetMap Nominatim — reverse geocoding to determine your state from GPS coordinates. OpenStreetMap privacy policy
• OpenEI Utility Rate Database — utility time-of-use rate schedules (when API key is configured). OpenEI privacy policy

Analytics & Advertising

CurrentCost contains no analytics, tracking, advertising, or third-party SDKs. We do not know how many people use the app, where they are, or how they use it.

Children's Privacy

CurrentCost does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The app contains no features directed at children.

Data Retention

All app data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all app data at any time by deleting the CurrentCost app from your device. We have no server-side copy of your data to delete because we never receive it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected with a new "last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
